History

The original Kokkedal Castle was erected as an aristocratic summer estate in 1746 and was designed by architect Johan Gottfried Rosenberg, who also created the Odd Fellow Mansion in Copenhagen.

The historic owners of the Castle include co-founder of the East Asiatic Company Jens Frederik Horsens Block (1864), Chamberlain and former Admiral Andreas du Plessis de Richelieu (1910).

Kokkedal Castle opened as hotel in 2011 and today operates under the name Kokkedal Castle Copenhagen.

Kokkedal is a natural part of Royal North Zealand and within short distance from the Castle you find heritage attractions such as Frederiksborg Castle and the Danish royal family’s country estate, Fredensborg Palace.

Also, within easy reach is the historic town of Elsinore and Kronborg Castle, the fictional home of Shakespeare’s Hamlet – an attraction that enjoys UNESCO World Heritage patronage.

Travelers with an interest in art and design can enjoy a unique opportunity to visit the inspiring modern art museums Louisiana, Gl.Holtegaard, Ordrupgaard and Nivaagaard. Within just a few kilometers from the Castle you also find the romantic home-turned-museum of Karen Blixen, author of ‘Out of Africa’.
